Chai in the old city, a few steps from Durbar Square.
This is the old-city outlet, on Paropakar Marg a few minutes from the brick and timber of Kathmandu Durbar Square. The mix here is unlike anywhere else in the city: shopkeepers from the surrounding lanes, students cutting through from Jhochhen, and travellers who have walked the square all morning and want somewhere to sit down. Chai gets drunk standing up at the counter as often as it does at a table.
